Barnala is the 20th district of the Indian state of Punjab, located in the center of the Malwa region. On 19 November 2006, after being separated from the former Sangrur district, it gained the status of district. With a relatively small population and area, Barnala shares borders with Ludhiana and Moga districts in the north, Sangrur district in the east, and Mansa district. in the south, and Bathinda district in the south-west. Its population, which includes various communities, contributes to local industries and culinary enterprises.
Initially established as a police district on 16 December 1991, Barnala transformed into a revenue district on 19 November 2006, leading to the reorganization of police stations. Subsequently, on 6 July 2013, Barnala was designated as an independent sessions division, easing the burden on litigants and legal practitioners who previously had to journey to Sangrur for criminal cases. This significant development, inaugurated by Hon’ble Acting Chief Justice Jasbir Singh Was of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, facilitated the swift resolution of legal matters. The Barnala Court Complex, equipped with modern amenities like power generators, RO water systems, and communication networks, serves the needs of litigants, advocates, and the general public efficiently.
